Foot Detox pads are adhesive pads which are applied on the soles of the feet to get rid of the toxins in the body. These pads are believed to remove the heavy metals, toxins, and parasites etc. Many commercials aired on the television claim that these foot Detox pads work. However, doctors suggest that foot Detox pads cannot and do not work.

How to Use Foot Detox Pads?
According to the instructions, the adhesive foot Detox pad should be applied on feet before bedtime and are to be left for about 8 to 10 hours. In the morning, one can find the detox pads in dark brown color, which indicates the toxins absorbed from the body.

The detox pads should be used each night, until the pad becomes lighter and less dirty. The detox pads manufacturers say that this process has several benefits such as reliving of the immune system burden, cleansing of the lymphatic system and improving the quality of sleep

How Detox Pads are supposed to Remove the Toxins?
How can foot Detox pad remove the toxins? The manufacturers say that Detox pads work similar to the process of osmosis in trees. Just like the trees absorb water, the pads absorb the toxins from the skin of the soles and improve your health

The Loopholes in Foot Detox Pads:
Here are the following loopholes in the theory that Detox pads remove the toxins:

There is no scientific evidence that foot Detox pads work

Skin is not a semi-permeable membrane and hence there is no way toxins can be absorbed by the pads

Skin is not a detoxification organ. Detoxification takes place in the liver, and then the kidneys filter the waste materials which are eventually removed from the body. Sweat maintains the body temperature, but does not play a significant role in removing the toxins

The dark brown color which is found on the Detox pads after 8 to 10 hours of wearing it may not indicate toxins. This is because, the same color is formed along with distilled water, hot water, and lab-created sweat. Experts opine that the dark brown color is not due to toxins but due to the reaction of the sweat with the vinegar

Experts say that foot Detox pads produce a placebo effect, due to which people may psychologically feel good. Hence, it is recommended to avoid these Detox pads as they may work. The better thing to do for detoxification of the body is to drink plenty of water and get lots of sleep.

A person with Diabetes has an improper level of glucose in blood, that requires insulin, is what diabetes is all about. The hormone insulin converts the glucose into energy and any impairment in this process results in diabetes.

Due to poor production of insulin in the body, the glucose remains unconverted to energy, and flows in the bloodstream causing fatigue. The body needs sugar for higher energy levels and when this is not available in adequate supply one feels tired.

Those with Type 1 diabetes experience fatigue because the body lacks insulin. In the case of Type 2 diabetes, the patient is prone to a condition called insulin resistance. In the case of the latter the body is unable to detect or properly use insulin.

Causes of Fatigue in Diabetics

Hypoglycemia (low blood glucose) – Due to less glucose, the body cannot produce sufficient energy, causing tiredness

Hyperglycemia (high blood glucose) – Body has insufficient insulin or cannot properly use it. The glucose remains in the bloodstream, instead of entering the cells and being converted into energy. This also causes fatigue.

Diabetic ketoacidosis – (severe hyperglycemia and build up of ketones in the blood. Those suffering from ketoacidosis do not have sufficient insulin to convert glucose into energy and suffer from fatigue

Obesity – It reduces physical functioning and the desire to exercise.

Other causes of fatigue in diabetics are dehydration, autonomic neuropathy, high blood pressure, heart disease, kidney problem etc.

Treatment of Fatigue in Diabetics

Dropping of excessive fat

Lowering blood pressure

Reducing cholesterol

Improved Diet

Exercise

Oral medication

Injection of insulin

A diabetic feels tired due to a number of reasons and if he takes good care of his general health he can tackle this problem adequately.

Foot cramps are caused due to the involuntary contraction of the muscles in the foot. Foot cramps can result in intense pain and inability to move the foot. The following are the reasons for foot cramps:

Overuse of the foot

Poor circulation

Dehydration

Holding the foot in a position for a long time

Lack of minerals in the body such as potassium, calcium, and magnesium etc

How to Get Rid of Foot Cramps:
Here are a some ways to get rid of foot cramps:

Drink adequate water every day: One of the primary cause of foot cramp is dehydration. Drinking enough water helps muscles contract and relax

Stretch and massage: Stretch your affected area in the opposite direction of the foot cramp. Now massage the cramped muscle with oil for about 5 to 10 minutes

Warm and cold packs: For treating painful and tender muscles, apply a heating pad or a warm towel. For treating tense muscles due to activity, apply a cold pack to relax the muscles

Stretch before and after activity: Stretching exercises are necessary before and after you exercise or take up heavy activity. Also remember to warm up before exercising and cool down after exercising to prevent foot cramps

Diet: Eat a diet which has enough minerals such as potassium, calcium and magnesium which are important for the proper functioning of muscles

In some cases, conditions such as hypoglycemia, diabetes, anemia, thyroid disorder, nerve disorder can result in foot cramps. If foot cramps do not go away by home measures, it is recommended that you consult a doctor for the proper treatment of foot cramps.

Tips to Prevent Foot Cramps: Some of the tips which can be followed to prevent foot cramps are:

Stretch your feet as much as you can. This will relax all the muscles right from the feet to the calves and hence prevent foot cramping

Massage your feet with lavender, peppermint or chamomile oil regularly in a circular motion. This will provide relaxation to the tensed muscles thus reducing pain

Give your body a hot water or a steam bath, this will also relax the tensed muscles and provide relaxation.

While sleeping at night, make sure that you sleep in a relaxed position so that the circulation of blood is not hindered in the body while you sleep

Intake of milk before sleeping will help in compensating the deficiency of calcium at night which could be a cause of foot cramping at night

Potassium and Foot Cramps
Potassium is an electrolyte and a mineral which is of utmost importance for the human body. The presence of potassium in a very small quantity in the body can result in a condition called as hypokalemia, which could result in several medical problems. High blood pressure and extreme cramping is one of them.

In order to avoid foot cramping which is caused due to low content of potassium in the body, it is advisable to take in potassium-rich food regularly or intake of some potassium supplement to maintain the proper levels of potassium in the body.

The natural food products which carry potassium in sufficient amount are cantaloupe, dairy foods, bananas, prunes, red meat, citrus fruits, chicken and some fishes like flounder and salmon carry potassium in sufficient amount. Apart from these, almost all the vegetables and legumes carry potassium in some amount. Salt is one of the greatest source of potassium. The more salt you will consume, more will be the amount of potassium you will get in your diet as well.

Today, one in two marriages end in divorce. Children whose own parents divorced are more likely to divorce themselves. Because divorce is no longer a social taboo people opt for this more quickly rather than try to work things out and fewer people than in previous generations are now prepared to stay in an unhappy marriage.

When couples with children split up there is less money for the custodial parent to live on so the family home might have to be sold to provide two households and the children might have to move area and change schools. Some children might have to be taken into care or be brought up by a relative if neither parent can house them or care for them. Relationships children had with extended family members can change for the worse, and with the removal of a partner from the family home there is also the possibility of a loss of a role model, parenting skills, general skills and support from the extended family of that parent.

Children from divorced families are less likely to do well in school, have poorer mental health, lower self-esteem and more problems with their relationships than children from intact families. Pre-teenagers might get involved in drug or alcohol misuse and truanting, while teenagers might become sexually active earlier and be involved in delinquent behavior. However, not all children affected by divorce have these problems – and some children have them regardless of their parents divorcing.

Children of separating and divorcing parents may feel betrayed, hurt, angry, sad, rejected, abandoned, fearful, confused and they may have little self-worth, feeling unlovable and to blame for what has happened. Sometimes children become withdrawn, depressed and anxious.

Discuss the following questions with the class:

Have you experienced your parents separating or divorcing? How did you feel about it?

How could you help friends whose parents are going through separation or divorce? (Talk to them about their feelings. Be understanding if they are grumpy or moody – make allowances. Try to empathize with them and imagine how it would feel if your parents were splitting up or how it felt when they did.)

What problems might children face when becoming part of a new family or when their family gets ‘blended’ with another? (Children from I each family might be treated differently and there might be step-sibling rivalry, with step-parents not liking the children or the I children not taking to them. Children from the two families might have to share rooms, have less time alone with their parent than they used to and have to eat food they might not like, prepared by a step-parent. There might be new rules and they might be told off by someone new. | They might still hope that their own parents will get together again.)

Have you experienced positive outcomes of a newly formed family? (You might benefit from a larger support network of relations as you have step-grandparents and aunts and uncles too now; you might be relieved that the conflict you experienced at home has stopped; you might have escaped from an abusive parent.)

How could you help a friend whose divorced parent is remarrying? (Talk to them about their feelings. Be understanding if they are grumpy or moody – make allowances. Try to empathize and imagine how you would feel if your mum or dad remarried – or how it felt when they did.)
