Hair transplant is a process where grafts from hair bearing skins are transferred to bald areas of the scalp.
Note: This operation should be done only when there is no chance of hair growing back either by medication or with time. Hair transplant is advised in only few types of baldness like Male Baldness
Small grafts of hair bearing skin primarily from back of the scalp are taken and transferred to bald areas of the scalp. In one sitting, somewhere around 50 – 100 grafts could be transplanted. For moderate to sever baldness 3-4 or up to 5-6 sittings might be required. This is done at an interval of 4 weeks. The grafted hairs are lost within 2-3 weeks but again grow after 2-3 months.
Planning and skill of the surgeon is vital for the outcome of the process. Infections occur but it could be controlled by medications. Scarring is not common but if occurs could ruin the transplant completely.
