What is the avarage age of a hair?

Is there anything like average age of hair. I see lot of hairs falling down but the total number of hairs I have seems intact?

    On an avarage a hair lifespan is near to 5 years. After this period the hair follicles shrink and hair remains static until it falls off by itself or it is brushed off.
