A designer baby is very possible now and the initial process could be completed online. The embryo banks are now allowing parents to choose their child characteristics on Internet and order it online.
Now the would be parents could choose egg and sperm donors after looking into their medical history, family background and education records. Even the photographs (baby and adult photos) of the donor are provided.
According to the London’s Daily Mail a British women is going for the “designer baby” in the next few months. She will undergo treatment at one of the US embryo bank. This Embryo bank is run by the Abraham Center of Life and is based in San Antonio, Texas. The embryos will be created and frozen in next few weeks after which British women can come for the treatment and go back home to have the baby.
This procedure is tested earlier on 2 women, one from Canada and other from California late last year. Both these mothers are 5 months pregnant now.
The cost for the whole procedure is between $14,000 and $18,000.
