Pink eye, also known as conjunctivitis is a very contagious disease and is normally caused by bacteria, virus or allergens. Your eyes become watery, itchy, red and light sensitive. The doctors will come up with a prescription of costly eye drops and medicines. You can avoid such expenses and yet get rid of the disease by a few simple home based treatments. This piece of article attempts to give an exhaustive list of such remedies. May be you can reap some benefit from it.
- A poultice made out of mashed apple or raw red potato if put on your infected eyes can give a positive result in few days. Remember that you need to apply the poultice on closed eyes for half an hour.
- Consume juice of gooseberry mixed it with a little honey. About a cup of this juice mixed with two teaspoons of honey can be a great remedy. When taken twice a day it can be very helpful.
- Take a minimum of 2000-6000 mg of vitamin C every day because vitamin C helps in curing the disease faster.
- Wash your eyes twice with cool green or chamomile tea every day.
- In order to reduce pain and swelling, wash your eyes with a decoction made out of 60 ml water and a handful of coriander.
- Make some tincture from eyebright pant and mix it with a tablespoon of boiled water and use it to wash your eyes. Remember that the mixture should be sufficiently cool.
- Consume rich sources of vitamins A and B2 such as milk, tomatoes, curd, butter, almonds etc daily.
- Make a mixed juice from a 300 ml carrot juice and 200 ml spinach juice and drink the same daily because, vegetable juices are very effective in curing pink eyes.
- You can make eyewash by mixing Oregon grape root with chamomile flower and boiling water. Use 2 cups of water, 2 teaspoon of the flower and 1 teaspoon of the root. After mixing the ingredients let the eyewash cool for 20 minutes before using it.
- Boil some water and then add considerable amount of salt in the boiling water and dissolve it. Take some cotton balls and sink them deep into the water so that the balls can absorb as much salt as possible. Pick up a cotton ball and place in over your closed and infected eye for at least 5 minutes. The salted water drips inside your eyes and can be little painful but the chances of getting cured remains high.
- It may sound a little weird to your ears but breast milk works on the conjunctivitis. Use two three drops of the milk every couple of hours either directly from the source or ask someone who is lactating to donate a small amount in the in a medicine dropper.
- A drop of lemon in your eyes can do the trick for you. It terribly hurts but works in a very short time.
There are many other remedies that can be piled up. However, these are good enough to help you get rid of the pink eye and give you a sigh of relief.
