    Cross Training exercises – Top 8 exercises

    Types of Cross Training Exercises
    The different types of cross training exercises helps in improving running in a better manner. The top 8 exercises are mentioned below.

    Swimming

    • Even though not weight bearing it is a good cross training exercise for running. Swimming helps you to build strength and even the flexibility for your run.
    • While swimming your upper body gets a lot of exercise and while your lower body gets relaxed. Runners are always recommended to swim when injured as it is helpful to recover from an injury.

    Water running

    • Water running could be another alternative for the runners who are injured. It is also helpful to the runners who want to make their runs easier.
    • It is advisable to go for water running during the humid and the hot weather. You find your workouts to be easier when you go for water running.

    Elliptical

    • There are elliptical machines for the cardiovascular workouts that are useful to runners. In these elliptical machines there are forward and backward motion.
    • You can plan accordingly upon your requirement. This is quite similar to the machines that are available for running.

    Walking

    • In case you are injured, walking could be considered to be a substitute for running when you are at the recovering stage. You are advised to go for a walk to become pain free when injured.
    • Speed walking can be one good way that helps in maintaining your cardiovascular fitness.

    Rowing
    Rowing could be one of the best cardiovascular that strengthens your upper body and lower body too. Rowing also helps in avoiding injuries when proper rowing techniques are known to you.

    Strength training
    Strength training helps in improving your strength by relaxing your muscles. Strengthening helps you to have flexibility in your body. Fatigue can be avoided by doing strength training.

    Cycling
    Spin classes and cycling are great ways to improve your fitness especially to keep your calf muscles fit and avoid pains in shin bone.

    Cross country activities
    There are many activities involved in cross training. In cross country activities, you can work on stretching your hamstrings, muscles and even lower muscles.
