    Blindness Treatment

suryaBy suryaJune 8, 2010002 Mins Read

Different types of blindness are partial blindness, light perception cases, low visual problems and total blindness. A person with total blindness has no functional vision. This results in serious injury to the eyes, optic nerve and the functional visual cortex of human brain. This article gives information about blindness treatment.

    Blindness Treatment

    • A surgery can treat the injuries of the eye, which replaces the damaged eyes with a new pair. The effectiveness of the surgery depends on the age of the person at the time of the injury occurred to the eyes.
    • If the injury occurs before the age of three or five, the functional visual cortex of human brain is not yet developed properly. But medical professionals advise surgical treatment if the person is above this particular age.
    • If a person has inflicted injury to the brain, especially the visual cortex, there hasn’t been a possible cure. The brain is a sensitive organ and any damage to its areas may result in improper functioning of the mental activity and motor senses.
    • And this is same with the damage inflicted to the optic nerves. Eyes send electronic impulses to the visual cortex of the brain that are relayed by the optic nerves. An improper function of optic nerves may jumble these impulses or may not even reach the visual cortex. This improper functioning may lead to total blindness.
    • A synthetic vision system has been developed by William H. Dobelle. This medical organization produces artificial systems for motor extremity losses and damaged internal organs. It has treated more than 40 blind people till date. It also came up with sufficient results for the possibility to treat total blindness soon in the future.
    • Advanced digital technology made this dream to become a reality. The synthetic vision system is available in a cheap price that helps to regain vision and mobility.
