    Treatment of Pink Eye in Dogs

    Most people think that the pink eye or conjunctivitis can infect only people, but not the dogs. Pink eye or conjunctivitis is caused by the inflammation in the front of the eye and the inner part of the eyelid. The pink eye causes in dogs are irritants, bacteria, Lyme disease and herpes virus. Symptoms of pink eye include itching in the infected eye, red eyes, irritation and discharge from the eye.

    Treatment of pink eye in dogs

    1. Use a fresh washcloth and soak it in lukewarm water. Squeeze out or wring the washcloth and then gently wipe away the discharge from the dog’s eye.
    2. Next step is to look out for any foreign obstacles and remove them, if present in the dog’s eye.
    3. Later, use lukewarm water to flush the dog’s eye. You can also use artificial tears which do not any preservatives for you dog. This is especially very important when you are unable to find out or see any foreign particles in the dog’s eye.
    4. Place a compressor on the dog’s eye. Use a clean washcloth, soak it in the lukewarm water, then wrung out the cloth and fold it in a square. Gently hold the compressor against the dog’s eye, but be sure that you don’t apply pressure. Make sure that you change the compressor on every application of the compressor on the dog’s eye and even for each eye. This helps to prevent the spread of infection from one eye to another.
    5. Repeat the above steps 1st, 3rd and 4th until the dog’s pink eye goes away.

    This is the treatment of pink eye in dogs at home. However, the treatment may not totally remove the pink eye
