Computer Vision Syndrome is a very common disorder amongst people who use and stare at computers for long. At present it is almost 90% of the population suffering and complaining from this disorder. Are you too suffering from this syndrome? Well, here is some indicators that will help you assess if you are suffering from this syndrome or not

    Symptoms:

    • Dry Eyes
    • Vision Blurredness
    • Eye Strain
    • Redness

These symptoms look simple and not very serious but if left unchecked it can cause great damage to your eyes.

Causes: Here are some causes, which will help you understand how and why you are suffering from this ailment.

Staring Too Long: When you look at the screen for too long, there is visual fatigue. The nerves in the eyes that are responsible for eye movement and focusing tend to get over strained when you keep reading, browsing, surfing and staring at the computer for long. Also, working on important projects that require the use of Microsoft tools like word, power point cause your eyes to be focused on the screen for long, thus causing eyestrain.

Treatment: In such cases where you are required to look long at the screen, doctors recommend use of workstation eyewear that reduces strain on eyes.

Also looking away from the screen every five minutes and focusing on something else helps a lot.

Blinking Less: Staring for long at the screen causes the eyes to blink less. Less blinking leads to less tear formation and this in turn leads to dry eyes.

Another cause of dry eyes is a screen that is set too high. Looking up at a screen set high increases the risk of drying of the tear film by 30%.

    Treatment:
Doctors recommend use of artificial tears to help overcome this problem.

Screens placed too close to the Eyes:
If he monitor screen is not 20-26 inches away from the eyes, there is a risk of you suffering from eye strain and redness.

Treatment:The best option would be to keep the monitor at a distance of 26 inches away from your eyes.

Keep these points in mind and nurture your eyes.
