    How Color and Light Affect The Ayurveda Doshas

    Light is also a form of energy like – heat, sound or electricity. Light has properties of waves. Light can appear in many colors depending on its wavelength. For example –

    Color Violet Indigo Blue Green Yellow Orange Red
    Wavelength 380—450 nm 420—450 nm 450—495 nm 495—570 nm 570—590 nm 590—620 nm 620—750 nm

    When a light wave falls under a specific visible wavelength, it appears as a specific color. Each color light can affect the doshas and health of a person. The color messages are sent by the light waves to us.

    • Yellow, Orange and White suits the best to the people who are ruled by Vatta. Red, Blue, Violet or Green can also suit them moderately. But Black, Brown, Grey and all dark shades should be avoided.
    • Green, Blue or White are best for people with Pitta Dosha. Small amounts of Grey and Brown are ideal. But strong or bright colors like – red or black should be avoided.
    • Kaphas are best with Golden Yellow, Red or Orange. Black, Brown or Grey may be used in lesser amounts. But usage of White, Pink, Pale Blue or Pale Green is strictly prohibited.

    Benefits of Some Colors:

  • Red:
    It builds blood, increases red blood cell count, improves circulation and enhances creativity.
  • Yellow:
    This stimulates Agni i.e.- ignition in stomach used to digest food, increases assimilation and absorption of food and raises consciousness.
  • Orange:
    This color fights bacteria and all pathogens that can cause harm to our body, strengthens our immunity and imparts knowledge.
  • Blue:
    Blue refers to cooling. It enhances awareness and reduces pain.
  • Green:
    Green denotes calmness. It helps in refreshing and energizing a body.
  • Red:
    Anger is red. It may be positive and healthy to a certain extent that you feel your strong emotions like anger and also can express it. Red color indicates your zeal to live and the strong will to struggle and survive.
