    Ayurvedic Remedies for Flatulence

    What is flatulence?
    Flatulence, in common words, is the problem of gas. It is a very common problem that many face, either for a short period of time or as a chronic problem. It can have many causes including spicy food, improper eating habits, unhealthy diet, stress, lack of exercise, obesity and many others. It can sometimes be painful and can also be socially embarrassing when you either burp or fart to release the gas. There are many simple remedies that can help treat and cure this condition.

    Ayurvedic remedies for flatulence
    In Ayurveda, flatulence is termed as Adhyamaan. Factors like weather changes, disturbances in intelligence and improper co-ordination of sense organs can cause an imbalance in Pitta Dosha which can, in turn, lead to this condition.

    Some Ayurvedic remedies

    • Ajamoda (Celery): It is a very strong carminative. The oil that is extracted from its seeds helps reduce digestive spasms.
    • Dalchini (Cinnamon): It is also a carminative. Few seeds of cinnamon can be had with water. This helps reduce smelliness when gas is passed.
    • Ajwain (Bishop’s weed): It is known to be a carminative. It is a very commonly prescribed by Ayurvedic practitioners as a herbal remedy for flatulence.
    • Elaichi (Cardamom): The extract of this herb reduces the smelliness of gas when it is passed. It also helps reduce gastric discharges.
    • Dhania (Coriander): This herb contains a special chemical that helps stimulate gastric secretions. It is also helpful in expelling gas out of the body.
    • Haldi (Turmeric): It is very useful in treating problems related to the stomach and digestive system.
    • Dry ginger and black pepper powders: Mix the two powders together and have about have a spoon of this this mixture with water. It helps give relief.
    • Dill oil and honey: You can mix a small spoon of honey with a drop of the oil and have this mixture immediately after meals. It helps control the problem.
    • Asafoetida, dry ginger powder and black salt: Mix a small amount of the ginger powder with a pinch each of the other two powders. Mix this in warm water and drink this solution for relief.
    • Ginger juice and salt: Mix a spoon of fresh ginger juice with a pinch of salt and have this right after your meals for relief from gas.

    These are just some simple herbal remedies that are very simple yet effective in dealing with the problem of flatulence and giving relief.
