    Pizhichil Treatment and its Benefits

    Pizhichil treatment is also called Sarvangdhara Ayurveda Treatment. Pizhichil is an excellent remedy for optimum relaxation in ayurveda. The treatment is also beneficial for various ailments such as nervous weakness, sexual weakness, hypertension, Vata imbalances, and limbs emaciation.

    Pizhichil is a treatment which comprises combination of heat treatment and oil massage. The therapy has been used since ancient times as kings used to take this treatment. Hence, the treatment is also called ‘Treatment for aristocrats’.

    Pizhichil Treatment

    The treatment is performed in the following manner –

    • It is a gentle and synchronized body massage, which is done with constant flow of warm herbal oil.
    • This ayurvedic treatment involves a oil massage over body by a cloth soaked in oil.
    • During pizhichil therapy, a person undergoing the treatment, is made to sit on a chair specially made for this therapy.
    • Medicinal oils are then applied over the body and head.
    • Shirodhara is also performed when needed during the therapy.
    • On the forehead, a cloth is tied to prevent oil from getting into the eyes.
    • Through squeezing a clean cloth dipped in oil, the warm medicinal oil is poured over the body in a continually flowing single stream.
    • Whole process occurs in a sitting position, but when shirodhara takes place, then only the person is made to lie down.

    Benefits of Pizhichil
    The ayurvedic treatment of pizhichil has been given importance as it gives good results to cure various body ailments, which are as follows –

    • Joint problems
    • Muscle tension
    • Increases blood circulation
    • Enhances sexual ability
    • Nourishes nerve tissues and body muscles

    It is also effective in treatment of –

    • Hemiplegia – It is a condition in which limbs of one side become severely weak.
    • Paraplegia – This condition signifies complete paralysis of lower half of the body.
    • General debility – It is the loss of body’s strength.
