    Bhringraj – Some Health Benefts of Bhringraj

    Bhringraj is an ancient ayurvedic herb which is mainly used for hair ailments. In ayurveda, the herb is used for treatment of hair loss, devitalized hair and skin, premature graying and various skin allergies. According to Ayurveda, Bhringraj is a rejuvenative for Pitta dosha and also for proper functioning of liver.

    The botanical name of Bhringraj is Eclipta alba, which belongs tot he family Asteraceae. The Sanskrit name of the herb is Bhringraja or Keshraja. Other common names of Bhringraj are Babri, Kaikeshi, Gunta-kalagara, Karisha-langanni, Maka, Karisirang-kanni, Kesuri, Kesuria, Kesharaji and Mochkand. Leaves of the plant are used for hair treatment. The oil of this herb makes the hair black, long and luxuriant. It also reverses balding and has a soothing effect on the nervous system. According to ayurveda, the herb is bitter, astringent and has cooling and sweet effect.

    Bhringraj is the main herb for hair ailments in Ayurveda. The herb has following health benefits –

    • Rejuvenation – The herb is believed to rejuvenate teeth, hair, bones, sight, memory and hearing. It also rejuvenates liver and kidneys.
    • Hair treatments -Bhringraj oil is a treatment for balding and graying. Massage with the herb’s oil makes the hair black and also promotes deep sleep.
    • In ayurveda, it is a treatment for enlarged spleen, hepatitis ad skin disorders. The root powder mixed with salt helps in relief from burning urine sensation.
    • Benefits to women -The herb is also useful for preventing abortions, miscarriages and also relieves post delivery uterine pains. Bhringraj leaves helps in reduction of uterine bleeding.
    • Urinary tract infections – Leaf extract is given to children for treatment of urinary tract infections.
    • Worms expulsion – The leaf extract is mixed with honey and given to infants for worms expulsion.
    • Piles – Fumigation with Bhringraj helps in piles treatment.
    • Anti-aging – Bhringraj oil has anti-aging properties and helps in body rejuvenation.
    • Stress reducer – The oil also acts as a general tonic for weakness.
    • Hyper acidity – Hyper acidity can also be cured by the herb as it has anti-inflammatory properties.

    Bhringraj should be taken in recommended amounts.
