    Bhumyamalaki Herb

    Bhumyamalaki is one of the most traditional herb mentioned in all Ayurveda scriptures. Bhumyamalaki herb has various health benefits. The botanical name of Bhumyamalaki is Phyllanthus niruri and it belongs to the family Euphorbiaceae. It is known by several other names such as bahupatra, tamalaki, visnuparni, bhadhatri and uttama etc. Whole plant part is used as a medicine.

    It has been found that the herb increases appetite, laxative, digestant and a liver stimulant. The herb is also beneficial in the cure of urinary diseases, asthma, cough, malaria, spleen and liver enlargement and jaundice. The herb is found throughout India.     Ayurvedic Properties of Bhumyamalaki

    • Vipaka (Post digestive effect) — sweet
    • Virya (Potency) — Cold
    • Guna (Characteristic) — Rough, light
    • Rasa (Taste) – astringent, bitter and sweet

    The herb pacifies the Kapha and Pitta doshas. Thus, it is helpful in management of all the diseases originating from Kapha and Pitta aggravation.

    Ayurvedic Actions of Bhumyamalaki
    Bhumyamalaki herb has following health benefits:

    • Amlapitta nashini — Bhumyamalaki herb is beneficial in the management of peptic ulcers, gastric burning and hyperacidity.
    • Meha vinashini — The herb is beneficial in cure of all urinary disorders including diabetes.
    • Kasa shwas hara — Bhumyamalaki herb is beneficial in cure of respiratory discomfort and cough problems.
    • Mootraroga arti shamani — The herb helps minimize urinary disorders discomfort.
    • Daha nashini — The herb helps in relieving burning sensation.
    • Pipasa hara — Bhumyamalaki herb relieves excessive thirst.
    • Stri rogam nashayed — The herb is used to cure various gynaecological disorders. Bhumyamalaki seeds are taken with rice water to cure gynaecological disorders.
    • Kshatapaha — The herb is used to heal wounds faster.
