    Vidanga Benefits

    Vidanga is an Ayurvedic herb. In Sanskrit, this herb is commonly called ‘Jantanasa’. Scientifically vidanga is known as Embelia ribes. It is a germicidal and bactericidal herb. It is a widely known cure for various health disorders.

    Vidanga herb is popularly known in India, but it is also found in Burma, Ceylon and Singapore. Vidanga herb pacifies vayu dosha. The fruits, leaves and roots of vidanga are used to cure various diseases. The herb is digestive, appetizer, rejuvenator and blood purifier. Various other health benefits of vidanga are discussed in this article.

    The herb is considered to have the following properties:

    • Anthelmintic
    • Alterative
    • Stimulant
    • Carminative

    Health Benefits of Vidanga
    Vidanga herb is used both internally and externally. Vidanga has various medicinal values which are as follows:

    • Dental Infections — Decoction of this herb is used as a gargle to help prevent dental infections and aches.
    • Skin diseases — A paste prepared from this herb is used for treatment of several skin diseases. It also helps cure skin depigmentation.
    • Cold — The herb is used to treat cold, sinusitis and migraine. To cure cold problem, the fruit should be taken with honey.
    • Digestion — The herb is considered to be a boon for healthy digestive system. It is used to treat variety of digestive disorders such as flatulence, dyspepsia, loss of appetite and dull abdominal pain. For treatment of chronic constipation, vidanga powder should be mixed with anise seeds powder and should be taken with hot water.
    • Worms expulsion — Vidanga is used to expel intestinal worms. To cure this, 10 gram powder of vidanga should be taken every morning on an empty stomach. A laxative should be taken in the evening. This method is used for destruction of tapeworms, thread worms and round worms.
    • Blood purifier — This herb is a widely known blood purifier
    • Dysuria — This herb id diuretic in action. Thus, it is used for treatment of dysuria.

    Vidanga herb should be taken under Ayurvedic physician’s supervision as this herb may cause sexual debility. The above are some of the health benefits of vidanga herb.
