Did you ever wonder that your cute and cuddly kids could be prone to several heart diseases? German researchers are prompt in alerting parents that kids obesity is so much on a rise that even 14 year old obese kids today are more vulnerable to heart diseases. Researchers further explained that on reaching their teens, the blood vessels of obese kids were hardened from outside and thickened from the inside.

Andreas Alexander Meyer, the pioneer of this study which was published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology, asserts that inactivity and obesity are the leading factors of Atherosclerosis (the disease commonly associated with hardening arteries). The researcher further explains that an obese child needs a minimum of, a 90-minute healthy heart exercise regime to avoid the risk of this disease.

    Exercise for Hardening Arteries
As most researchers believe, exercise is the best way to get rid of heart diseases. A 6-month exercise program for obese children is always recommended to avoid the risks of any heart ailment.

The benefits of exercise for hardening arteries are listed below:

    • Cut calories
    • Reduces blood pressure
    • Cuts cholesterol and saturated fat levels

    Exercises Recommended
Researchers claim that it is difficult for most parents to make their children engage in activities. In order to do so, parents need to make exercises fun for their children rather than a regime.

The types of exercises which can be fun and healthy for kids are:

    • Swimming
    • Kids treadmill
    • Walking
    • Active participation in sports like sprinting, tennis, etc

This study was conducted on about 50 obese kids who engaged in swimming and other forms of water aerobics for about 60 minutes every Monday, spent 90 minutes on team sports every Wednesday and went for a 60-minute walk every Friday.

    Results of the Study

The 6-month exercise program saw the following effective results in kids:

    • The arteries became more flexible thereby allowing better flow of blood to all parts of the body
    • The inner layers which were becoming thick due to weight gain started becoming thinner thereby helping smooth blood flow
    • Weight loss was another advantage kids witnessed
    • Cut calories with reduced saturated fat and cholesterol levels
    • Reduced blood pressure levels was also reported

Now you see how important activity is for kids. Weight gain or obesity can be the cause of many illnesses. Do not let childhood obesity become a permanent problem for your kids. Instead, find effective solutions like exercise, sports and physical activities to make their hearts worth breathing.
