    Top 7 Tips to Avoid Overeating

    Eating when you are hungry and stopping when you are full is the best way to eat. However, we tend to eat when we are not hungry and do not stop even after we are full. This leads to overeating and feelings of guilt quickly come over us.

    There are many reasons behind overeating, such as partying, stress, easily available processed food etc. The key to stop overeating lies in recognizing these reasons and stop eating when you are full

    Here are top 7 tips to avoid overeating:

    • Eat food slowly: Eat food slowly by chewing the food thoroughly and enjoying its taste. This will give enough time for the body to send signals to the brain when you are full
    • Avoid watching TV or doing other activities while eating: When we eat while doing other activities, we forget the amount of food we eat. Even before you realize, you would have eaten a lot of food stuff
    • Know your triggers: We may eat food for a variety of reasons, such as stress, anger, boredom etc. Hence, know your triggers and learn to deal with them properly. For example, if you are stressed up, you can speak with your friend or go for a walk etc. instead of eating
    • Do not skip meals: Skipping meals makes you hungrier and you may overeat. Skipping the breakfast also slows the metabolism. Hence, have regular, healthy meals every day
    • Go for smaller portions: Go for smaller portions and have additional servings if you feel hungry. When you go for a larger serving, you are more likely to eat all of it. Hence, take smaller portions or you can also prefer a smaller plate
    • Be careful while eating in parties:   While eating in parties, a lot of food stuff is available and much time is spent in socializing. You may lose track of the amount of food you eat. Hence, always be aware of the amount and the kind of food you eat
    • Keep a food diary: Keep a food diary, writing down what you eat and drink on a daily basis. When you record the amount of food you eat daily, you would more aware and accountable while eating food

    Being aware while eating food is the key to stop overeating. Always concentrate on what you eat. This will stop you from overeating and enable you to enjoy the food you eat
