    What are the Health Benefits of Black Cardamom?

    Black Cardamom is a versatile spice and has various benefits. The common name for black cardamom is amomum. It has larger, dark brown pods. It is used as a spice for cooking purposes and also as a remedy for various diseases.

    Black cardamom helps in treatment of various diseases such as dyspepsia, relieving gas, soothing the mucus membranes, heart burn and increasing appetite. It is also used as a remedy for cystitis, gonorrhea, nephritis and urinary tract disorders.

    Black cardamom has various other benefits and has been used traditionally. Volatile oils are extracted from black cardamom seeds. Romans and Greeks also used it in pungent perfumes. Black cardamom is the main component in Dutch windmill biscuit and Scandinavian patisseries and cakes. It is also used in Russian liquors.

    Black Cardamom Benefits
    Following are some of the health benefits of black cardamom –

    • Digestion — Black cardamom effectively kills H. pylori bacteria. This bacteria is associated with ulcers. Cardamom also has a calming effect on the digestive tract and is used as a remedy for gastritis and dyspepsia.
    • Anti-inflammatory — Due to its anti-inflammatory properties, it is used for treatment of colon cancers.
    • Depression — Cardamom tea is a rejuvenator and helps relieve depression.
    • Sexual disorders – Black cardamom is also used for treatment of sexual dysfunctions like premature ejaculation and impotency.
    • Bad breath — The aroma of cardamom is used for treatment of bad breath.
    • Genito urinary disorders — The powdered seeds of cardamom are mixed with amla juice and a tablespoon of banana leaf. This mixture is taken thrice a day. It also serves as treatment for nephritis, cystitis, gonorrhea, urination, scanty and burning micturition.

    These are some of the health benefits of black cardamom.
