    What is meant by Churg-Strauss syndrome and how is it related to allergies? This article will explain.

    Who is Affected with Churg-Strauss Syndrome?

    – This condition occurs often with people who have history of allergies or asthma.
    – It is a vasculitis, which means that you develop inflammation of the blood vessels somewhere in the body.

    – Lungs, skin, abdomen and nerves are also often affected by this decease.

    – Small arteries and veins are affected by this syndrome.

    Causes for Churg-Strauss Syndrome

    It is not clearly known what causes this condition. The immune system is over activated in this condition. Asthma is one cause for Churg-Strauss syndrome.

    Symptoms of Churg-Strauss Syndrome

    – Fever
    – Weight loss
    – Inflammation in the sinuses
    – Fatigue
    – Cough
    – Shortness of breath
    – Chest pain because of lung inflammation
    – Skin lumps or nodules
    – Diarrhea because of blood vessel inflammation in the gastric tract.
    – Bladder or prostrate inflammation
    – Numbness of extremities
    – Seizures and confusion because of brain being affected

    Diagnosis of Churg-Strauss Syndrome

    Diagnosis of the illness can be done with a biopsy of infected tissue. People affected by this disease have often elevated blood pressure. Chest x-ray can help to find out if the lungs are inflamed because of the disease.

    Treatment of Churg-Strauss syndrome

    – Treatment involves limiting the inflammation that occurs because of the disease. Also the immune system should be suppressed in order to get rid of symptoms of the disease.

    – Cortisone is used to treat the inflammation. This will help to limit the amount of blood vessel inflammation.

    – The treatment of the disease is sometimes involved with using toxic substances. Therefore, it is important to use care in dosage and medication delivery.

    – The syndrome can be fatal because it is a serious illness. But effective treatment is possible to achieve when treated by someone specializing in these sorts of diseases.
