    Home Remedies for Pollen Allergies

    Are you or your child suffering from seasonal hay fever? Are you struggling with running and itchy nose or red, swollen or teary eyes during summer or spring season? These symptoms are due to the chemical reactions of the body against pollens. These reactions are called as pollen allergies.

    Here are some useful home remedies for treating hay fever or pollen allergy:

    • It is difficult to keep yourself or your child away from pollen contact during late summer and spring. So it’s better to air condition your room instead of opening windows.
    • Early morning and evening witness a high concentration of pollen, so it is better to avoid going out during this time.
    • If you are going out in a car, roll up your car windows and turn on your air conditioner.
    • As a precautionary measure you can take either one capsule of dried and frozen nettle or a cup of nettle tea daily. If you suffering from hay fever, then you can increase the doses from 1 to 3 for excellent results.
    • You can even try applying petroleum jelly in the inner side of your nose; this would help in reducing irritation.
    • If you have itchy eyes during hay fever, then you can try cold black tea eye pack. Prepare black tea and cool it, then dip a cotton wool in it and place it on your eyes.
    • In a little water, boil a lemon rind and minced grapefruit for ten minutes. Take three spoons of this mixture mixed with honey daily.
    • One spoon of local honey taken daily is also helpful in hay fever.

    More home remedies for pollen allergy

    Nasal wash or irrigation

    Use a neti pot to irrigate your nose regularly. Or, use saline nasal spray to ward off hay fever symptoms. By these methods, you can rinse off animal dander, dust, fungal spores and air-borne pollens.

    Herbal eyewash

    Mix a teaspoon each of marigold, eyebright and camomile flowers. Mix this flower mixture in 250ml of boiling water. Steep for 15 minutes. Steep the water with a coffee filter and remove all the herbal particles. Soak cotton balls in this herbal tea and put it on your eyes for 10 minutes, thrice a day. Ensure you are not allergic to any of the ingredient herbs. Another alternative is applying a wet camomile teabag to your eyes.
