    Milk Allergy Rash

    Ever had a rash after consuming milk? This symptom might be a sign of milk allergy.

    Milk or dairy allergy is among the top 8 allergy-triggering foods in adults and it a common reason behind allergies in children. One of the first signs of milk allergy is a rash, which mostly occurs immediately after consuming the milk. Along with the rash, you can have other symptoms such as itchiness and hives.

    How do you know if your rash is caused due to milk allergy? In the case of milk allergy rash, other allergic symptoms such as runny nose, abdominal bloating, gas and diarrhea can be present. In severe cases, the rash may progress to breathlessness, dizziness and low blood pressure that are indications of anaphylaxis. Anaphylaxis can be life-threatening   and can be stopped by using a self-injectable epinephrine.

    Milk Allergy in Infants:
    Milk allergy is common in kids and infants. Rash, diarrhea, gas are some of the symptoms of milk allergy. In such cases, your doctor may ask you to completely eliminate milk products in your child’s diet and switch to a milk-free formula. You may be asked to re-introduce milk products later to see if your child has outgrown them. The good news is the many kids overcome milk allergy as they grow.

    To treat milk allergy rash in children, you should make sure that the kids do not scratch the rash. Cold compresses and over-the-counter creams can help in relieving the rash.

    Milk Allergy in Adults:
    Complete avoidance of milk and milk products in important to prevent milk allergy. To treat milk allergy rash, cold compresses can be used. Over-the counter creams, topical or oral corticosteriods, anti-histamines may be prescribed to treat milk allergy rash.

    If you suspect milk allergy, consult an allergist who can conduct allergy tests to diagnose and treat the allergies.
