    Mountain Cedar Allergy

    Mountain Cedar Allergy is caused due to the pollen of the mountain cedar tree.   Mountain cedar is a kind of juniper tree and is known to produce large amounts of pollen. Mountain cedar tree pollen can travel long distances when carried by the wind and they result in allergic reactions such as runny nose, watery and itchy eyes, sneezing etc.

    Mountain cedar tree pollinates from December to March and hence, people are mostly affected during the winter months. Mountain cedar allergy is a kind of pollen allergy and is also known as cedar fever.

    Mountain cedar allergy is caused when the immune system mistakenly identifies the pollen as harmful and reacts against it, resulting in allergy symptoms.

    Mountain Cedar Allergy Symptoms:
    The symptoms of mountain cedar allergy are similar to that of hay fever. Following are some of the symptoms:

    • Sneezing
    • Itchy and watery eyes
    • Runny nose
    • Nasal congestion

    Mountain cedar allergy comes under the category of seasonal allergies,where allergies are triggered only during a certain season. A person who is allergic to the pollen of mountain cedar, can also be allergic to juniper and cypress tree pollen.

    Mountian cedar  Allergy Test:
    An allergist can determine if you are allergic to mountain cedar by conducting skin test or blood test (RAST).

    Tips to Prevent Mountain Cedar Allergy:
    Here are some tips to prevent mountain cedar allergy:

    • Avoid gong outside when the pollen count is high
    • Keep the windows closed and use a HEPA enabled vacuum cleaner and filters to minimize the pollen
    • Wash your clothes after coming from outside as clothes can collect pollen
    • Prefer machine drying than drying outside

    Another long-term option to prevent mountain cedar allergy is to get yourself allergy shots.

    Mountain cedar allergy can be severe, but it can be managed by avoiding exposure to the pollen.
