    Walnut Allergy Symptoms

    Walnuts are good sources of proteins. They are rich in Vitamin B, fiber and magnesium. Walnuts have significantly higher amounts of omega 3 fatty acids than compared to other nuts. There are about 21 species of walnuts and the best-known member is the Persian Walnut.

    Walnut allergy is a type of nut allergy. Nut allergy is one of the most common form of food allergies seen predominantly in children. Most of the people who get affected with this allergy develop at a very young age, mostly before the age of three.

    Walnuts can be dangerous to people who are allergic to it. The allergy can be due to touch, smell and consumption or ingestion. These reactions range from mild to severe. The symptoms vary from person to person and it is seen that the same person exhibits different symptoms at different times. Here we give a few symptoms of walnut allergy.

    Symptoms of walnut touch allergy:

    • Hives on the skin
    • Itchy skin
    • Rashes
    • Tingling sensations of the skin

    Symptoms of smell allergy:

    • Sneezing
    • Runny nose
    • Watery eyes
    • Shortness of breath

    Symptoms after taking in or eating walnuts:

    • Nausea
    • Vomiting
    • Stomach pain
    • Diarrhea
    • Redness in lips and tongue

    The allergic reaction to walnut allergy may start within a few minutes of taking nuts. The milder symptoms can subside within sometime.

    For some these symptoms can lead to severe reactions and the person experiences life threatening symptoms. This is in the case of anaphylactic reaction to the allergy. Some of the severe symptoms of the allergy are:

    • Swelling in the face, lips and tongue
    • Airways in the lungs become swollen
    • Drop in the blood pressure
    • Increase in the heart rate
    • Loss of consciousness
    • Shock
