What is blood pressure and hypertension?
Blood pressure is the pressure that is exerted by blood on the walls of blood vessels. When blood pressure is higher than the normal range for an extended period of time, this condition is known as hypertension. It can be caused by stress, heredity, obesity and some other factors. It is a chronic condition that has no known cure, although it can be kept under control. If not kept under control, it can lead to various cardiac problems.

    Ayurvedic blood pressure medicines

Ayurveda is an ancient school of medicine from India that has cures for a wide range of disorders and diseases, including problems related to blood pressure. There are herbs that can help keep blood pressure closer to the normal range and reduce risks associated with hypertension.

    Ayurvedic herbs for hypertension
There are herbal medications that are recommended according to your body type or Dosha in Ayurveda. These are specific to each Dosha and are therefore best taken under the supervision of an Ayurveda expert.

    • Vata: Jatamansi ans Serpagandha are herbs recommended for this body type.
    • Pitta: Sarsaparilla and Sandalwood are herbs that are recommended for this body type.
    • Kapha: Arjuna is the herb that is beneficial to this body type.

These herbs can be taken in the form of powders, tablets or pills, unless there are specifications on how to take them that are given by the Ayurveda practitioner.

Along with these specific medications, there are some general remedies and practices that can be followed by all those who suffer from this condition.

    • Garlic and buttermilk: You can crush one or two cloves of garlic, mix this in buttermilk and have this daily.
    • Honey and lemon juice: You can mix the two together and have this everyday on an empty stomach, preferably in the morning.
    • Fennel and cumin seeds: You can mix one or two small spoons of the powders of these seeds in a glass of water and have this solution once or twice everyday.
    • Yoga: There are some Yoga Asanas like Shavasana (Corpse pose), Sukhasana (Easy pose) and simple stretches that can help keep stress levels down that are a major cause of this condition.
    • Pranayama: These are breathing exercises that can help keep stress levels down and help lose weight to some extent if done regularly.
    • Meditation: This is also beneficial in keeping stress levels to a minimum and lower blood pressure levels as well.
    • Diet: You should have a nutritious, healthy and balanced diet that is not very rich in calories.

These are some easy and simple ways by which you can control the problem of high blood pressure and lead a normal healthy life.
