    Ayurvedic Remedies for Teeth Whitening

    The dazzling bright teeth attracts attention from others and beautiful teeth also increases the beauty of the face. To increase the face value, top actors and actresses go for dental cosmetic surgery. A person with yellow or brown teeth are not considered to be good looking. Hence, dental care becomes essential.

    Kapha dosha is abundant in the mouth. Vitiation of kapha dosha leads to various oral and dental problems including loss of teeth whitening. There are various methods suggested in Ayurveda to maintain the whiteness of teeth. Some of the useful and easy methods are described in this article.

    Ayurvedic Teeth Whitening Remedies
    Ayurveda suggests the use of various herbs, which helps in teeth whitening:

    • Babul (Acacia arabica) — It is one of the important Ayurvedic herbs. Babul twigs are used for this purpose since the time immemorial. A chemical compound, tannin is present in babul which increases whitening of teeth.
    • Holy Basil (Ocimum sanctum) — The leaves of the holy basil are dried in sun and made into powder form for brushing the teeth. This improves the dental hygiene and also whitens the teeth. It also helps prevent bleeding gums (pyorrhea).
    • Banyan (Ficus religiosa) — The roots hanging in air (also called the aerial roots), can also be used like a disposable brush. They have an astringent property which makes teeth whiter and its juices helps in strengthening the gums.
    • Margosa (Azadirachtha indica) — It is an important Ayurvedic herb and is a traditional remedy for health teeth. Neem twigs are used for brushing the teeth. It has antibiotic property. Oil obtained from this herb has antiseptic and astringent properties, which helps fight bad breath, caries formation and kills bacteria. Gargling with neem decoction also helps teeth and gums strengthening.

    Ayurveda also prohibits smoking and consumption of fast foods to maintain health teeth. To maintain healthy and white teeth, mix holy basil leaves with mustard oil and brush this paste with neem or babool twigs.
