    Ayurvedic Treatment for Scabies

    The Ayurvedic name for scabies is Kachchhu. Scabies is a highly contagious skin infection. It is caused by a mite parasite Sarcoptes scabiel. Skin infections show some symptoms such as swelling, redness and pus. Scratching the skin worsens the condition. The mite’s saliva causes the allergic reactions and leads to itching in the night .

    There are various Ayurvedic remedies to cure scabies. For quick recovery from scabies, a person must follow a proper dietary regimen. Sweet and sour foods should be avoided. Ayurveda cures scabies mainly by making the use of neem and sulphur. Some other Ayurvedic home remedies are discussed in this article to cure the condition.

    Ayurvedic View of Scabies

    • This disease is believed to result from vitiation in all the 3 body humors — vata, pitta and kapha.
    • It mainly occurs due to aggravation of phlegm humor of the body.

    Ayurvedic Cure for Scabies
    Following are some of the Ayurvedic treatments for scabies:

    • Neem — Boil the bark of neem tree to prepare a decoction. Apply locally on the affected skin. Neem leaves can be made into paste form with some turmeric powder and mustard oil. Apply this on the affected areas and leave on for at least one hour.
    • Camphor — Apply camphor mixed in coconut oil at the site of the lesions.
    • Sulphur – Mix sulphur into ghee and heat on low flame till all the sulphur is almost burnt, remove from the heat and allow it to cool gradually. Apply locally once or twice a day.
    • Mint — Extract the juice by crushing a few mint leaves, apply locally.

    Other Ayurvedic preparations to cure scabies are as follows:

    • Purified sulphur (Gandhak) – This is a common cure for scabies.
    • Maha Marichadi Taila — This is a medicated oil to be applied on the affected skin.
    • Brahmivati pills — It should be taken in the doses of 125 mg twice daily.

    Characteristic Symptoms of Scabies

    • Itchy vesicular eruptions on the skin.
    • The itching is worse at night.
    • Perhaps inflammation, scratching and pus formation.
    • Presence of characteristic burrows.

    The above are some of the Ayurvedic remedies to cure scabies.
