    Ayurvedic Treatment of Tonsillitis

    Tonsillitis is the one of the common diseases of the respiratory tract. It is the inflammatory condition of the tonsils. Tonsils lie on each side of the throat. The inflammation of tonsils occur due to infection. There are various ayurvedic treatments available for tonsillitis.

    Tonsillitis affects people of all ages, but it mostly occurs in the growing children. The common cause of tonsils infection is bacteria Streptococcal haemolyticus. Chronic tonsillitis, when not treated properly, can also lead to various other diseases such as nephritis, rheumatic fever and various other complications.

    Ayurvedic Treatment of Tonsillitis

    Following are some of the ayurvedic treatments for tonsillitis –

    • Sphatika — It is a type of quartz crystal, which is used in tonsillitis treatment. In ayurveda, it is described as an antiseptic, astringent and haemostatic. It also has anti-pyretic, antibiotic and anti-inflammatory properties. In earlier times, the purified powder of sphatika was applied over affected tonsils. It is also taken internally measuring 1 gm of powder in lukewarm water. The brilliant properties of sphatika subdues activity and multiplication of the pathogen.
    • Agastya rasayana — The preparation is advised for people with severe and chronic tonsilitis. It also prevents future development of the disease. One teaspoon of the preparation mixed with honey, should be taken twice daily for 6 months.
    • Khadiradi — It comes in tablet form. Suffering person can take it six times daily.
    • Kulanjana, Yashti madhu and Vacha — These should be made in powder form and mixed properly. The powder should be mixed with honey and consumed.
    • Gargling — it is one of the best method to cure tonsillitis and further development of any throat infection.

    Symptoms of Tonsillitis
    There are following symptoms of tonsillitis –

    • Fever — high fever around 103-104 degrees Fahrenheit
    • Enlargement of tonsillar glands leads to unspeakable condition
    • Pain on swallowing
    • Pain in the ear on the affected area
    • Oozing pus
    • Sore throat
    • Chills
