    Important Health Benefits of Arjuna in Ayurveda

    Arjuna, a medicinal plant has various health benefits in Ayurveda. The herb has been used in several medicinal preparations since ancient times. Arjuna protects the heart and is beneficial for treatment of various heart diseases such as heart failure, angina, edema, gonorrhea, high cholesterol, blemishes, acne, wounds and dysentery.

    The botanical name of the herb is Terminalia arjuna. The bark of the herb is used for treatment of various diseases. The bark is rich in various minerals and organic compounds like magnesium, aluminium and tannins. It also contains some crystalline compounds such as lactone, arjunine, arjunetin, sugars, essential oils and coloring matter.

    Health Benefits of Arjuna
    The herb Arjuna has the following health benefits:

    • Heart protection — The herb is used as a cardiac protection and prevents heart attack.
    • Cholesterol — Arjuna helps in maintaining the cholesterol levels in the body and brings it to normal.
    • Nourishment — The herb provides nourishment to the heart muscles, which ultimately helps in contraction and expansion of the heart.
    • Circulatory system — The herb helps in vasodilation as well as vasoconstriction and hence improves the blood circulation in the body.
    • Wounds — It heals the wounds easily and can also be applied externally on burned area. The herb helps in clot formation, hence it also prevents blood loss in an injury.
    • Cough — The herb is found to be useful in tubercular cough. It is effective in healing the ruptured arteries in lungs and stops blood in cough.
    • Aging signs — It is a powerful antioxidant, hence it maintains youth and stops early aging signs.
    • Diarrhea — Decoction of bark is used to get relief from diarrhea and dysentry.
    • Sex stimulant — Powder of the bark is taken with milk, which is an effective sex stimulant.
    • Ear ache — Fresh leaves are crushed and its juice can be used effectively for ear pain.
    • The herb also benefits in suppression of painful micturition and regulates normal flow of urine.
