    Prasuti Tantra in Ayurveda

    As the most traditional system of medicine is Ayurveda. It has various branches for treatment of any disease. Prasuti Tantra is one of the most important branch that deals with gynecology and obstetrics sections. According to Ayurveda, if Ayurvedic methods are followed during pregnancy, they will lead to a hassle free delivery. The article discusses about different set of rules designed by Ayurveda to be followed during pregnancy, fetal development and parenthood.

    Principles of Prasuti Tantra
    It is based on the following principles:

    • Prasuti tantra also states that some standard principles should be followed during pregnancy and the most suitable time for conceiving a baby.
    • Garbhini paricharya is an excellent protocol for this. This protocol gives information about the following methods to be followed by women during pregnancy:
      • Nutrition (Ahar)
      • Thought process (Vichar )
      • Life style (Vihar)
    • According to Ayurveda, the thoughts, lifestyle and nutrition directly affect the fetus development.
    • Meditation also plays an important role during pregnancy.
    • Another important branch is Pediatrics, which stresses on the care that should be taken in post delivery period of the baby.
    • Paediatrics discusses about what to feed the baby and the right way of feeding a baby.

    Fetal Development

    • Pregnancy brings a gigantic change in a woman’s life.
    • Pregnancy results in happiness of the pregnant women and leaves a would be mother with an abstract idea of how would her child be like from the starting day till she delivers the baby.
    • Pregnancy period brings changes in a mother’s mental and physical changes in various ways.

    Post Partum Disorders

    • It is also termed as PPD or post natal depression. Post partum disorders is a form of clinical depression that can affect both women and less frequently men after a child’s birth.
    • According to some Ayurveda physicians, it is not a very serious problem and it can be ignored. But, the statistics reveal that the count of PPD affected women are increasing in both developed and developing nations.
    • It is related to several health issues like excessive weight gain or loss, endocrine disorders, arthritis and chronic reproductive problems.

    Garbhini Vyakaran

    • Management of Pregnancy can be described under Garbhini Vyakaran.
    • This branch deals with various activities, diet plans, mental activity and behaviour of an expecting mother.
    • This branch also discusses about several diseases that may occur during pregnancy and their cure.
    • At the time of pregnancy, special care should be taken.

    The above are some of the principles of Prasuti tantra.
