    Raktamoksha Therapy and its Benefits

    Raktamoksha therapy is one of the most important panchkarma treatment. In this treatment, toxins are eliminated from the bloodstream through the gastrointestinal tract. The therapy is safe, effective and less painful.

    Raktamoksha therapy purifies the flood. Thus, this therapy is used to treat diseases related to skin like eczema, rash, urticaria, scabies, acne, chronic itching, leucoderma and hives. Other diseases that can also be treated with this therapy are enlarged spleen, liver, gout and hemochromatosis.

    Benefits of Raktamoksha

    • This therapy is used to cure various diseases.
    • Raktamoksha therapy develops immunity by removing the anti-toxic substances from the blood.
    • Anyone can take raktamoksha therapy, except a few people suffering from edema, anemia, weakness and those who are too old or too young.

    Diseases that can be treated by Raktamoksha therapy are as follows:

    • Eczema
    • Abscess
    • Jaundice
    • Gout
    • Herpes
    • Piles
    • Leucoderma
    • Skin diseases – Scabies, urticaria, eczema, rash, acne, chronic itching, leucoderma and hives

    Types of Raktamoksha Therapy
    There are following 2 types of Raktamoksha therapy:

    • Shastra Prayoga
    • Anushastra Prayoga

    Shastra Prayoga

    • Pracchana — Prachanna is administered in order to remove blood from a particular point in the body.
    • Sira Vedhana — It is also called Venepuncture. This is devised whenever there is flow of adulterated blood.

    Anushastra Prayoga

    • Sringa — Horn is used to extract blood by vata.
    • Jalouka Prayoga — leech is administered to extract blood as leech is able to extract deep seated vitiated blood.
    • Alabu — Alabu is made up of ushna and tikshna gunas, thus blood adulterated by kapha pitta can be extracted.
    • Ghati Yantra – Ghati yantra is administered when vitiated blood is settled in different skin layers. It is another form of raktamoksha therapy.
