    Causes of Eye Inflammation

    Eye inflammation can occur in any individual. This can occur due to variety of factors. Some of the factors of eye inflammation are discussed in this article.

    Causes of eye inflammation

    • Allergies: These are the common causes of inflammation in the eye. They can cause a persistent eye irritation. An allergic condition called Allergic rhinitis which can be triggered by seasonal changes, pollen molds, house dust-mites or pets, can lead to inflamed and itchy eyes.
    • Viral and bacterial infections: Conjunctivitis is the most common infection caused by bacteria and pink eye is the highly contagious infection caused by virus. Chronic inflammation, blepharitis, styes or other tiny painful infections are some of the eye problems. They occur due to improper wear of contact lens, trauma. eye injury, touching the eye with unclean hands or surgery.
    • Vitamin A deficiency: Individuals who have a deficiency of vitamin A are more susceptible to eye problems and infections.
    • Overuse of over the counter eye drops and prescription: To soothe mildly inflamed or irritated eye many individuals use eye drops, but prolonged use of these medications can lead to a ” rebound affect”. As a result the eyes become irritated and sore until you use the eye drops again, creating a type of dependency on the eye drops affect.
    • Illnesses and diseases: Diabetes, herpes and measles might cause eye inflammation. Inflammatory conditions like irritated bowl movements, arthritis and lupus can also cause inflammation in the eye. Sexually transmitted diseases spread to the eye easily.
    • Foreign substances or foreign matter: Plant sap, grit or dust can get tapped inside the eye under the eyelid, which can cause discomfort and inflammation.
    • Cosmetics: Few eye cosmetics might cause irritation, because of its expiry date, ingredients or personal sensitivity.
    • Improper use of contact lens: Unhygienic conditions or use of contact lens even after the intended period is a common cause of eye infection or inflammation.

    These are some of the causes of eye inflammation, one can avoid them by taking some preventive measures.
