    Corneal Neovascularization

    Corneal neovascularization is the condition in which excessive in growth of blood vessels takes place, from the limbal vascular plexus into the cornea. It is caused due to less intake of oxygen from the air. Some other causes for this condition are wearing contact lenses continuously for a longer duration of time. In extreme stages such condition can even result in vision loss. It is for the reason that doctors recommend annual checkups, so that inhibit conditions like these can be detected even before they become chronic enough.

    Signs And Symptoms Of Corneal Neovascularization:
    The signs and symptoms for this conditions includes:

    • Deeply placed stroma cells are visible through the cornea which are usually accompanied by the nerve fibers.
    • The vessels which are actively engorged can be seen. These vessels are surrounded by the lipids and are usually more than 12 millimeters in length.
    • Around the vessels of stroma , the deposition of lipid takes place which gives an appearance of yellow — white opacities.
    • As it is very much similar to choroidal tumor must be checked carefully and then treatment should follow.
      This condition is also very much similar to conjunctival carcinoma which is usually found on the corneal epithelium.

    Causes Of Corneal Neovascular:
    The causes of corneal neovascular includes:

    • Any trauma to eyes
    • Wear and tear in contact lenses
    • Immunological disease
    • Burn to eye due to some chemical
    • Condition of glaucoma
    • Interocular conditions like pthisis bulbi

    Treatment For Corneal Neovascula:

    The treatment of neovascula is generally done by removing the underlying condition responsible for it. Steroid drops can be used for treating the condition. In extreme cases, some surgical modalities can be carried out for treating this condition.
