    Eye Tumor

    The literal meaning of tumor means swelling of a mass or a tissue. The tumor can be benign or malignant. A benign tumor is one that doesn’t have the ability to spread, while, a malignant tumor spreads to the other organs. Tumors in the eye generally occur due to cancers that have spread from other affected parts of the body.
    Most eye tumors involve the uvea, conjunctiva, optic nerve, retina.

    Types of Eye tumors:

    There are various types of eye tumors:

    • Tumors of the Choroid and Ciliary Body
    • Tumors of the Retina and Retinal Pigment Epithelium
    • Tumors of the Iris
    • Tumors of the Optic Nerve
    • Ocular lymphoma


    Symptoms eye tumor :

    the most common type of eye tumor is
    Melanoma: The symptoms of this tumor are: visual block, retina detachment, hemorrhage and pain in cases of larger tumors.
    Hemangiomas: Symptoms of this tumor are: central vision loss and detachment of the retina.
    Choroidal Nevus: Symptoms are: loss of central and peripheral vision.
    Conjunctival Tumors: symptoms include pain in the eye and vision complications.
    Eyelid Tumors: The symptoms include pain, swelling, visual complications, and functional complications of the tear duct.
    Orbital Tumors: Symptoms include detachment of the retina and swelling of the eye.
    Retinoblastoma: symptoms are:, swelling, redness, squint eyes and the pupil turns white.

    Treatment eye tumor :
    There are number of ways to treat eye tumors. The condition of treatment depends on the size of the tumor, the diagnosis and the aggressiveness of the tumor.

      Small tumors may react to cryosurgery or laser treatment.
      In some cases, a tumor can be removed surgically and still prevent loss of vision.
      Radiation therapy for eye tumors, is another technique to remove tumors by focusing precisely on the eye. This prevents the radiation from reaching other healthy tissues.
      Implants or artificial eyes can also replace natural eyes, although, they do not see.
