Redness in The Eye-How to Deal With it

Sometimes we notice the whites of our eyes having more red lines than a road map. Well this redness in the eye is due to working for long hours without proper sleep. Getting exposed to dust or pollution may also cause redness.
It may also be due to dryness or some irritation. It may be a sign of chronic or acute glaucoma, conjunctivitis, inflammation of the eye, blood diseases, gout, thyroid diseases and even a tumor.

Here are some ways you can reduce redness in the eye.

    Get your Self Some Sleep.
If you have been working non-stop without proper rest then get yourself some sleep. Closing your eyes for 7 to 8 hours helps to rehydrate them. Without sleep the eyes can dry out and dry eyes are red eyes.

    Treat your eyelids

If your eyes are red when you wake up, then the problem is on your eyelids not in your eyes. It is called blepharitis and it is a low grade infection of your eyelids. Just wash your eyelids with warm water at night before you go to bed.

    Crocodile tears
Redness that comes on during the day is caused by dryness. If that is the case, counter artificial tears can be used to moisten the eyes.

    Cool it
Use a cool, wet washcloth and lay it over your closed eyes. The cold will constrict the blood vessels without the rebound effect while the water will add moisture to your eyes.

    Cover Your Eyes
Wear nicely fitted goggles in the pool so that no chlorine enters the eye as chlorine is responsible for causing irritation in the eye. Wearing shades while traveling can also be an effective way to protect your eyes.

See your doctor right away if you find anything unusual or are having pain in the eyes. If your eyes hurt, your vision is blurred or you have a pinkish haze, you need medical treatment urgently.
