    Alternative to Gastric Bypass Surgery

    Gastric Bypass Surgery may not be a suitable option for a few people. If you are one of those few, there are a few surgical and non-surgical alternatives which are as follows

    Lap-Band Gastric Restriction

    • This procedure involves fastening a tight band around the stomach and making a separate smaller stomach.
    • This will restrict your food intake to great extent, and make you feel full for longer time.
    • There is no cutting or stomach rerouting involved.
    • It is the least invasive procedure, and yet gives good results with less pain and scars.
    • Another great advantage of this procedure is, the band can be loosened to increase the stomach size during illness or pregnancy.

    Vertical Banded Gastroplasty

    • This is a common alternative for gastric bypass surgery.
    • The procedure involves a surgical technique called stomach stapling.
    • A smaller stomach pouch is made and the remaining stomach is stapled, this reduces the food intake to a great extent.
    • In critical conditions this procedure is reversible.

    Non-Surgical Procedures

    Dietary Therapy

    • Here the weight loss can be achieved steadily.
    • Adherence to very strict diet, in order to reduce the calorie intake.
    • The therapy involves educating the individuals about calorie and protein contents in different foods.
    • Understanding nutrition labels and nutritional food preparations.
    • This therapy will make the obese people to adhere on low-fat and low-calorie diet regimes at all times.

    Exercise Therapy

    • Moderate physical exercise is the first step, and it is an important step for treating obesity.
    • Special exercise routines will be developed as a part of this therapy, these routines are designed for progressing beyond the normal 30 minutes regime.
    • These exercises mainly target the waist circumference and abdominal fat
    • The routine includes Aerobic exercises, brisk walking, dance routines, jogging, cycling and swimming.

    Behavior Therapy

    • This is aimed to improve an individuals habits, exercise patterns and diet activities.
    • The therapy mainly focuses on effective weight loss solutions and on identifying any associated high risk situations.
    • Usually the patient will be rewarded for consuming no fatty foods or for exercising longer.
    • One of the main concept of behavior therapy include, developing social support networks for encouraging and motivating weight loss in obese people.
