Diet, exercise, slimming pills are all passé. Cow urine is the latest fad among people trying to lose weight. There has been a lot of debate on the benefits and efficiency of cow urine. Traditionally, cow urine has been used to treat various ailments and problems for thousands of years in India. Cow urine is considered sacred in Hindu mythology. It’s medicinal and healing properties are widely being propagated all over the world.

Some researchers claim that cow urine can cure obesity, heart ailments, skin diseases, kidney ailments. Though there has not been any scientific evidence to support these claims, people using it strongly advocate its medicinal properties. Researchers also suggest that cow urine alone does not help in weight loss. It works best when it is taken along with additional vitamins and hormonal treatment.

    How does it work?

Cow urine consists of urea, uric acid and minerals along with other waste that has not been digested by the cow. Researchers also claim that cow urine contains Vitamin A, B, C, D, E, Sodium, Potassium, Nitrogen and other minerals. Enzymes which are very important for digestion are also found in cow urine. According to a study published by the African Journal of Biomedical Research, a solution of cow urine and vitamins was administered to lab rats. The appetite of the lab rats decreased considerably due to low secretion by the pyloric gland. Researchers hope that it would have the same effect on humans and thereby, help in weight loss.

However, this alternate medicine is not approved by the FDA. Most doctors do not advice using such forms of alternate medicine. There is no proof of any person losing weight by consuming cow urine. All the claims made are not backed by any proof. It is always safe to lose weight by following a balanced diet and regular exercise. These are tried and tested and give long term results. Claims of weight loss in a short time period are often dubious.

What Latest Research has to Say on Benefits of Weight Loss ?

According to Australian researchers, a moderate weight loss up to 6 kgs can boost the immune system in obese diabetic people. Obesity disturbs the inherent balance that exists between the natural protective cells of our immune system. When this balance is disturbed, the cells responsible for protection of our cells turn hostile. Excess fat also initiates production of what scientists call Pro-inflammatory immune cell. These cells flow along the blood stream and cause damage to the blood.

The study found that by restricting the diet of the diabetic patients between 1000-1600 calories per day, the presence of these harmful cells can be brought down by 80 percent. The results of the study are published in the April edition of the online Journal of Clinical Endocrinology Metabolism.

The gravity of Obesity menace can be understood from the fact that two-third of American adults are Obese. The government had to declare Obesity and Diabetes as national epidemics last year.
