Can “High Protein” Diets Help You Lose Weight Effectively?

A fad diet is a quick weight loss cure and can also be referred to as crash dieting. Usually such a diet is not supervised by the doctor. When a fad diet mainly constitutes “high proteins”, it means that you are going to feed only on chicken, meats, eggs, etc. The intake of proteins ignores the significance of carbohydrates which is the source of energy for fruitful human function. The body is thereby thrown out of gear when a person depends on a completely high protein diet to lose weight fast.

What Are the Dangers of “High Protein” Diets?
The answer is no if you’re trying to lose weight effectively with the help of a high protein diet which brings ketone bodies into play. A high protein diet thereby causes you to lose weight dramatically with the loss of water and not loss of fat. So, you lose weight quickly but don’t lose or burn fat at all. Experts state that this situation is quiet similar to starving, which is not considered healthy for the body in any case.

Researchers further provide a glimpse into the situation by stating that incomplete oxidation or burning of the fatty acids and proteins leads to the formation of acidic ketone bodies which are called acetone and acetoacetic acid. This condition is known as Ketosis, where the ketone bodies are flushed out of the system through urine. The ketone bodies also seem to pull out large quantities of water which is concurred to be the main cause of weight loss.

Another significant danger of being on a high protein diet is that, proteins contain “purines”, which form uric acid in the body and that which actually results in “gouty arthritis” or what we normally know as “kidney stones”. Extreme cases of urea retention can lead to coma and even death.

Why Drinking Water is also not enough to hydrate the Body?
Experts are of the opinion that this excessive loss of water is also not enough for the body to meet its minimum needs of hydration. This is contributed by the condition of ketosis, which leads to nausea tendencies and limits the intake of digestive foods and fluids.

Experts opine that one can lose about 4-5 kilos in a day but it is absolutely unhealthy for a person to survive long in a ketosis state. So if you’re not otherwise healthy and medically fit, then you can be sure that you are playing with your life by being on a high protein diet to burn fat fast, which doesn’t really happen.
