Smoking cigarettes is a highly harmful habit, that can cause great damage to your health. But, there are a few advantages that come with smoking. One such plus point is smoking can result in weight loss. This article discusses how smoking helps one lose weight, while comparing this advantage with the many harmful effects.

Why Smoking Leads to Weight Loss
There are many reasons why smoking helps the smoker lose weight. A few of the reasons are given below:

Smoking Can Damage the Taste Buds
Smoking damages the taste buds, because the tar and chemicals in cigarettes create a coating inside the mouth. The taste buds get covered by this coating and become less effective. The affected taste buds make food taste increasingly bland. So, your enjoyment of food lessens drastically, impacting your appetite. This results in weight loss as you start eating less quantity of food. Thus, it is not worth spoiling your taste buds, so that you can get temporary pleasure from nicotine.

    Nicotine Suppresses Appetite
Studies reveal that nicotine can suppress your appetite. Therefore, smoking can make you less hungry, and you would not feeling like eating too much. But, on the flip side, nicotine is very dangerous, as it can damage the kidneys and arteries and increases the chances of heart diseases. Nicotine withdrawal can cause constipation, insomnia, poor concentration, headaches and irritability. Therefore, do not rely on nicotine for weight loss as you can become addicted to this harmful substance.

    Smoking Improves Metabolic Rate
Smoking can make your heart beat more rapidly. As a result, your body burns extra calories, as it uses up more energy. When you are smoking, your body burns more calories. Heavy smokers can burn about 200 calories more each day. On the flip side, smoking affects your heart by increasing the risk of various ailments. Smoking-related heart diseases are a common cause of death. So, do not expose your heart to danger, simply to obtain a slight improvement in your metabolic rate.
