    Teenage Smoking May Harm The Brain

    The development of the brain can get affected due to smoking during the teens. As the brain matures during adolescence, smoking by teenagers can hamper its growth. This was observed in a study. Young boys are likely to suffer the most as their hearing gets affected. They find it difficult to focus in the class.

    Smoking during adolescence is not good for health. It affects the growth of the brain. The brain does not develop to its full potentiality. Teenage boys are most likely to be the victims. Smoking can aggravate failure at school among these teenage boys. These boys cannot hear properly in class and they lose out on studies. Dr. Leslie Jacobson, a paediatric psychiatrist working at Yale university in the U.S. made this observation. Youngsters between the age group of 14 to 19 were observed. How smoking has negative impact on the brain? Let us try to answer this question.

    Why Teenage Smoking is Bad for Brain Development?

    • Pregnant teenagers who smoke are at risk of their child developing brain abnormalities while still in the womb. This may continue during adolescence as well
    • Teenager smokers can have shrunken brain
    • The possibilities of suffering from chronic mental illness are there
    • Teenagers who smoke find it difficult to concentrate in class due to hampered mental growth
    • Hearing can get affected among teenage boys who smoke. Their performance at school comes down. Nicotine affects brain connections which help in listening when distracted

    Smoking during adolescence is bad for health. It damages the brain. The maturing processes during adolescence get affected. Teenage boys who smoke have hearing problems. Doctors and researches have observed that teenage smoking can affect the mental and physical growth of the brain.
