One can smoke if one is eighteen years old. Legally, one is permitted to do so. There are suggestions that it should be increased to 21 years. No doubt, youngsters, who are habituated to smoking, would prefer it to remain at 18. Adults, particularly, conscientious parents would prefer it to be higher in order for youngsters to refrain from smoking. Many young people, still in school, have become habituated to smoking. What is right age to smoke?

    When Should One Smoke?

    • Opinion is held that those who are eighteen are in a position to decide what is good for them. The age limit need not be increased to 21 years
    • Many parents feel that age limit should be higher as too many young people are smoking. They are becoming addicts at a very early age
    • Young smokers fail to realize the damage they are causing to themselves as well as to others. Second hand smoke is also bad for health and passive smokers suffer a lot from various diseases
    • If the smoking age is delayed further, then the chances of developing lung cancer among the young are also reduced. Smoking from an early age can be bad for health
    • Conscious citizens have been against young children in their early teens taking to smoking. In fact, some have suggested that parents who permit their children to smoke should be prosecuted
    • Some feel that increasing the age limit would not have much effect, as teenagers would continue to experiment. They are curious about smoking at a very early age
    • Teenagers who smoke at an early age are at a risk of developing symptoms of mental illnesses such as depression, worthlessness and depression. This could be due to changes in the brain due to nicotine exposure
    • Youngsters should start smoking when they are fully aware about the consequences of their acts and understand the pitfalls of smoking

Smoking at an early age is definitely not advisable as the smokers are at a risk of developing cancer at an early age. Their tender bodies get exposed to the smoke, and in due course their health is badly affected. Children in their early teens should refrain from smoking, as they will develop serious health problems later on in their adult lives.

rachel, why increase the age if teens are going to experiment with drugs and become addicts. it should be lowered to seize that. if teens were able to smoke at… lets say 16, it would reduce the danger of teens turning to drugs. lower it and everyone will be better off. anyways itll save parents money because of fines for the kid and themselves.

Anyone who thinks that the age should be increased is an idiot. Kids will find a way to smoke if they want to. The age is at 18 and over 90% of all smokers at 18 have been smoking. This shows that kids don’t care if they are breaking the law. Increasing the age would do nothing but piss people off. It won’t decrease the amount of smokers or cause kids to wait till they are 21. Every kid knows that smoking is bad they choose not to care. Not to mention lots of kids smoke to be rebelious and this will just increase kids wanting to rebel. We can’t just keep raising age limits obviously it does not work to keep kids from smoking or drinking. What we need to do is use education and have parents take a more active role in their childs lives.

whats up with you people saying higher? seriously think about it the crime rate is already through the roof on smoking illegally it would just be causing more harm than good. oh and people who say smoking is awful and so terrible for you are probably the drinkers which harm your body too, nothing is technically good for us. i mean too much water can kill you so. don’t judge
