    More people are using tobacco and smoking innumerable number of cigarettes. Even teenagers are taking to smoking at an early age. Advertisements play an important role in either increasing the number of smokers or reducing the number of smokers. Anti-smoking campaigns make use of these advertisements as well as the tobacco industry prefers to sell its cigarettes through these advertisements.

    Smoking is not considered to be a good habit from health point of view. Many conscious citizens have tried to make the citizens aware of the health hazards they may experience if they continue to smoke. Focus is to educate the citizens of such hazards and try to make them quit. Advertisements play a pivotal role in such efforts. What do these advertisements have to say?

    • Shocking images have shown in these anti-smoking advertisements such as a fetus lying in an ashtray, a man suffering from impotence etc
    • Benefits of quitting smoking
    • Leaves the clothes smelling. The cigarette smell persists in the home and in the car
    • Cigarette smoking could lead to other adverse conditions
    • Anti-smoking products are advertised
    • These advertisements are meant to motivate youngsters to avoid smoking or if they would like to quit
    • How to sustain after quitting is also focused upon in these advertisements
    • Advertisements create awareness among smokers about the efforts made by the respective Governments to deal with the problem of smoking

    Anti-smoking advertisements help in controlling smoking. They facilitate the anti-smoking campaigns in influencing the smokers to give up this habit. Such advertisements also ensure that tobacco manufacturers do not mislead teenagers in purchasing their products.
