There is no defined reason for occurrence of asthma. According to experts the causes of asthma can be inherited from family genes. Asthma can occur due to certain kinds of environmental exposures. The factors that cause asthma occur in the early ages of a person’s life.
The bronchial tubes become narrow when a foreign substance enters into the windpipe. There may occur a block in the bronchial tube which makes it difficult for the person to breathe properly. This condition can lead to wheezing, dry cough and heavy breathing.
The primary factors which affect the occurrence of asthma are:
- Tendency to get allergy which is known as atopy
- From the asthmatic parents to children
- Respiratory infections occurred in the childhood
- Exposure to allergens
- Contact with airborne particles
- Viral infections occurred in the early childhood before the proper development of the immune system
The exposure to the airborne particles and allergens found in the dust mite, house dust mites, dog and cat dander can be avoided if asthma attack is suspected. The irritants that are present in the cigarette smoke, tobacco smoke and other kinds of smokes can cause asthma. The airways show a tendency to over react to the irritants and allergens that are present in the inhaled air.
Numerous researchers are engaged in different dimensions of research regarding the causes and the factors that leads to the development of asthma. The researches show that there can be different reasons of asthma in different people.
Hygiene Hypothesis
There is an important theory about “what causes asthma”. It is known as Hygiene hypothesis. As per this theory, the researchers believe that the lifestyle in the western countries is an important cause of asthma. The changing lifestyles and living conditions can cause asthma. The overall decline in the infections in early childhood and high emphasis on sanitation and hygiene matters can also be a reason for the development of asthma especially in children.
