    Tongue Twisters For Kids

    Children with speech impediments and speech delays often need to a speech therapist who would prescribe certain speech activities along with some oral motor exercises. These often are very boring, though helpful. The boredom associated with the activities may prompt the child to discontinue the therapy.

    Tongue twisters for kids can be an excellent way to improve any kind of speech impediments.

    A Few Tongue Twisters: Let us look at a few tongue twisters-

    • The blue bluebird blinks.
    • Fat frogs flying fast past.
    • Around the rugged rocks the ragged rascal ran.
    • Irish wristwatch.

    The above are just a few examples tongue twisters. Though there are hundreds, may be even thousands of tongue twisters that can be found.

    Upon seeing the above examples you can understand that, tongue twisters are a combination of group of phrases containing words with same sound or same beginning letter.

    Tongue Twisters For Kids: Practising tongue twisters not only cures any kind of speech impediments, but also enables a wonderful speech dexterity. A child’s speech quality can be tremendously boosted by practising tongue twisters. Moreover, kids can find them to be a real fun and would not consider it an oral exercise.

    Practising tongue twisters daily for at least 10 minutes can prove to be very helpful. But, the following points have to be kept in mind:

    1. start off by uttering every word of the tongue twister slowly and clearly
    2. practise at least 2-3 tongue twisters daily
    3. increase your speed of uttering gradually and upon fumbling, stop and start again
    • A daily practice would ensure that the difficulty associated with speech is gradually diminished and also the ease with which the child pronounces the phrases is improved.
    • Practising tongue twisters with the sounds that the child has difficulty pronouncing would alleviate speech problems gradually.

    Tongue twisters for kids or not just a mouth exercise. They also have a tremendous effect on the brain. The practising of tongue twisters ensures the brain to become more sharper and the brain is now well trained to handle the speed and clarity of the child’s speech.
