    Fasting and Starvation

adminBy adminMay 15, 2010002 Mins Read

Fasting is different from starving. During fasting the body cleanses itself of everything except vital tissue. Basically during Starvation, the metabolic rate slows down due to less intake of calories. Starvation usually occurs when the body is forced to use vital tissue to survive. This article gives you information about fasting and starvation.

    What is Fasting?

    • Fasting is refraining from eating and drinking, except water, for certain period of time. Fasting can be done for a day to several weeks.
    • Fasting helps in internal cleansing.
    • It eliminates toxins and waste products from the body.
    • Fasting gives you clean and clear skin, makes you healthier and younger for long time.
    • It plays a major role in disease prevention.
    • It slows down metabolic rate and controls your weight.

    Difference between fasting and starvation
Fasting and starvation are different from each other. Fasting controls and manages weight. It changes the chemistry in the body and improves the metabolic rate. But starvation damages it.

While we sleep the body goes into a fasting state. It waits until we sleep and finally when we sleep, the body begins its work of cleansing.

Fasting is a very easy way of losing weight. Starving results in weight loss but you need to know what happens when you starve. It inhibits the body’s ability to burn fat. It is important to remember that the body requires certain amount of energy everyday in order to survive. If you fast your body may go into starvation survival mode.

Starvation does not mean abstaining from food. It is to decrease the intake of total calories to 50% of what actually is required by the body.
Starving is eating inadequately and poorly, eating scraps of whatever available such as white flour, shoe leather, rancid grease and even dirt.

Do not get confused between fasting and starvation.
