    Hazards of Rapid Detox

adminBy adminJuly 30, 2010012 Mins Read

When it comes to drug addiction and the consequent detox for cleansing the body from the habit has been quite debatable. However, a few researchers and doctors are using the rapid detox method to get the addicts to get rid of their unhealthy habit. The rapid detox is believed to be quick and cleanses the body hardly leaving any chance for the patients relapse. However, is it as simple as it sounds? There are a few hazards that rapid detox can lead to, and it is important that you know about them.

Functioning of Rapid Detox: Understanding and implementing rapid detox is quite simple. Basically, the functioning of rapid detox is simple. Firstly, a person who is addicted to a drug or alcohol is put under anesthesia. After about 4-24 hours, the patient is believed to be cured of his/hers addiction. This is based on an ideology that, when the patient is drugged, the opiate receptors of the brain are blocked. And, this results in flushing the toxins from the body.

The Hazards: The following are a few hazards of rapid detox.

    • Relapse: According to a study that has been published in the journal of the Drug and Alcohol Dependence reveals that around 80% of the people who go for the rapid detox have a definite chance of relapsing. However, a few people who have been optimistic about the rapid detox stated that there is a very little chance of relapse.
    • Withdrawal: It takes time for an addict to come out of his/her addiction because the body takes some time for the withdrawal period. However, in a rapid detox, the body’s withdrawal process is forced to speed up thereby causing damage to the brain and heart. It can be quite stressful for the body and a few symptoms like headaches, muscle and joint pains and even heart murmurs can be experienced after a rapid detox.
    • Death: The safety of the rapid detox has become quite a suspect. During the rapid detox treatment, there have been a few cases of death of the patients.

All-in-all there has not been much information about the effectiveness of the rapid detox. Most of the results that have been published have almost been negative. In the end, we all know, success of the short cut won’t stay long.
