    You have to be careful to break a fast. As the digestive system becomes more sensitive after fasting, the body needs appropriate timings and food to break fast. You must have experienced the weightage of way to break fast while fasting.

    In spiritual fasting, the time for breaking the fast are well defined. In Ramadan fasting the observer breaks the fast at particular time in the evening by drinking water or taking a date. The similar tradition is observed by Hindus when they break fast in morning after a day long fast. There is a profound philosophy behind the time for breaking the fast. Fast is meant as successful and fruitful when the observer breaks the fast in this time slots. The observer of this kind of fasting have faith on the rules of system of fasting.

    Fasting for cleanse or health fasting also have time to beak the fast. Time here corresponds to the body stage to which the process of cleansing, or the purpose for the fasting is taken up, is accomplished. This is the scientific way to break the fast. The observer of these type of fasts have intelligent judgment regarding the breaking of fast.

    Here is the procedure to break the fast:

    • Before breaking the fast sit calmly on ground or chair in a comfortable position. Calm your thoughts and tranquil your mind on the thoughts of divinity.
    • Contemplate what you have learnt while fasting.
    • Thank Almighty for allowing you to observe your fast in successful way, the way it need to be observed.
    • Now take a morsel of food that is meant to break the fast and keep in mouth. Chew the food properly. Spend extra time to complete the meal after the fast.
    • Some of dont’s at the time of fasting are: Don’t eat too fast after breaking the fast and don’t drink too much water before breaking the fast.
    • Include foods with laxative effects in your diet as they help to restore the bacterial balance in the body. Examples are: cherries, grapes or prunes.
    • Resume eating normal to gain healthy body and mind after the fasting. Include all vital vitamins and minerals in the diet.
