    How to Have a Successful Spiritual Fast

    Spiritual fast has a higher purpose than just cleansing of body. It is a way to calm the mind and focus on the inner self. The person who takes up spiritual fast should be well aware of his purpose of fast. He should choose the right type of spiritual fast and proceed with determination. In this article, you can know how can you can observe a successful fast.

    The Right Fast for Your Belief

    • You need to choose the right person to consult about your spiritual status. Consult a spiritual advisor or counselor to know the right thing for you.
    • Keep the purpose of fasting to become closer to God. You should first know the philosophy better and then take up the practice.
    • Be clear how long you are going to fast. Try experimenting by taking shorter fasts in the beginning and then go for longer fasts. Once decided be determined about the fast.

    Tips While Fasting

    • Inform your family, friends, colleagues and other important persons in your life well in advance before taking up the fast. This helps them to be sensitive towards you while you are fasting.
    • Read or hear from those who have already fasted the way you are fasting. This helps you to be very practical and result oriented during fasting.
    • Avoid all mass media like television, newspapers, radio and other junk while fasting. Avoid all books that are not related to spiritual fasting. Be far from all worldly distractions as much as possible.
    • Give a break to your recreational activities such as sports and other hobbies. Avoid going to cinemas and other entertaining events.
    • Try meditation and concentration several times a day. Improve your purity in speech and conduct towards others. Try to forget about the material world around you.
    • End your fast peacefully. Remember to pay gratitude to the Almighty and all those who have made your fast a successful one.
